Experts from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) created the curriculum for TEFL Online, employing their globally recognized expertise in the field of foreign language teaching. The course creators from the Faculty of Education at the University of Toronto have academic backgrounds in the field as well as domestic and international teaching experience.

Prospective educators will study lesson planning, teaching methods, principles of grammar, and second language acquisition theory, and will develop a portfolio of student-centered activities and helpful techniques for teaching abroad. Unit Two covers the basics of teaching language skills to English Language Learners. The unit focuses on creating student-centered lesson plans. Which elements of English, specifically, can be difficult for students to learn, and how can these difficulties be addressed in the classroom?

  • Dos and Don’ts in ESL/EFL
  • Introducing activities, giving instructions, and assessing student comprehension
  • Giving feedback and correcting student errors
  • Teaching the six major elements of language learning: Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening, Grammar, and Pronunciation

Unit Three - Adapting Subject-Specific Content (10 hours)
